Quick answer

The Nuovo Teatro Verdi is Brindisi's city theatre, in the old town, and its 2026-27 season runs from 12 November 2026 to 11 April 2027 with twelve shows: plays, two musicals, a Pino Daniele tribute and the ballet of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala. Single tickets cost 20 to 32 euro at the box office or on Vivaticket. The building stands partly over San Pietro degli Schiavoni, a Roman quarter with mosaic floors and baths.

Which shows work if you do not speak Italian?

Plays are in Italian, and several are Neapolitan comedies, so they are best for Italian speakers. If you do not speak the language, choose the musical (Rocky, 23 January), the Pino Daniele tribute (7 March) or the Accademia Teatro alla Scala dance evening (21 March): music and dance need no translation.

The Roman city under the theatre

The theatre was built over part of San Pietro degli Schiavoni, an archaeological area of about 4,800 square metres in the heart of Roman Brindisi, discovered between 1964 and 1966. Excavations brought to light a paved Roman street, houses with mosaic floors and a late imperial bath complex.

The area is currently closed for works, according to the Ministry of Culture. For Roman floors you can see today, walk to Palazzo Granafei-Nervegna on Via Duomo, free and open every day (see rainy day in Brindisi), and read the story of the city in our Brindisi history walk.

Make an evening of it

Weekday shows start at 20:30, Sunday and Saturday shows at 18:30. Before an early show, an aperitivo in the old town; after a late one, a pizza or a glass of Negroamaro. Our guide to Brindisi at night has the details, and Brindisi wineries explains the local reds.

Walk home after the show

BDS House is a whole home in the old town, so after the theatre you walk back through quiet lanes instead of driving. Up to 6 guests, two bedrooms, a sofa bed, a full kitchen and two private rooftop terraces. Book direct and you will find a Puglia welcome box prepared by my father. Check your dates.
